About the role
Be the hands-on technical authority for One Agent. Make the hardest parts of the system work and establish engineering practices that keep the product understandable, testable, and dependable.
What you will own
- Own reference implementations, architecture reviews, interfaces, design quality, and the resolution of difficult cross-system defects.
- Build robust execution: task state, retries, idempotency, observability, permission checks, recovery, and clear human intervention points.
- Coach engineers through design and code review. Partner with security, research, and operations on production acceptance criteria.
What we need to see
- A record of personally building and debugging demanding systems. Strong judgment in software architecture and the ability to improve the work of other engineers.
Your first 90 days
- 30 days: reproduce the most serious failure modes and establish an engineering quality baseline.
- 60 days: deliver a reference implementation for one critical workflow and a practical design review process.
- 90 days: show measurable improvement in successful task completion and defect escape rates, with documented recovery behavior.
Success measures
Escaped defects; regression rate; recurring incidents eliminated; critical workflow reliability; engineering time lost to unclear interfaces.
Interview work sample
Review a supplied architecture and failure trace. Explain the root cause, implement a bounded repair, and show how you would prevent a recurrence.
Scope
This is a senior technical role. Engineering managers and delivery commitments remain under the execution officer; standards align with the CTO.
Where and how we work
This role is based at the Kirkland Garage, 1021 5th St W, Kirkland, WA 98033. We work in the office together five days a week. Remote work is available only by exception, arranged individually around specific circumstances.
Pay
The proposed US annual base salary range is $350,000 - $550,000. The role is also eligible for target variable compensation of 25% of base, an initial equity award and our benefits program, subject to the applicable plans. The final offer reflects role scope and demonstrated experience. Equity value and variable pay are not guaranteed.
