About the role
Turn product and technical priorities into dependable delivery. Build an engineering organization that makes clear commitments, ships useful work, and supports what it releases.
What you will own
- Own engineering people management, staffing, delivery planning, technical program management, release operations, and incident execution.
- Maintain one delivery plan with owners, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and capacity. Expose tradeoffs early and remove persistent blockers.
- Develop engineering managers and a sustainable operating cadence. Ensure releases include observability, support readiness, and recovery plans.
What we need to see
- Experience leading technical teams through shipping, operational incidents, and organizational growth. Must be able to explain missed commitments and how the delivery system improved.
Your first 90 days
- 30 days: establish a delivery baseline, assign owners to active work, and resolve the most consequential ownership gaps.
- 60 days: implement a release cadence and recovery process; complete the first prioritized milestone against explicit acceptance criteria.
- 90 days: demonstrate improved delivery predictability and lower rework without increasing incidents or overloading the team.
Success measures
Accepted milestones delivered; lead time; blocked work age; change failure rate; time to recover; rework; team capacity health.
Interview work sample
Build a six-week recovery plan from an overloaded roadmap. Identify what to defer, assign accountable owners, and explain the release decision when quality and schedule conflict.
Scope
The CPO sets product priority, and the CTO sets technical direction. This officer owns the people, capacity, and delivery process needed to execute both.
